#DonateYourVote 2020

Following the success of the 2018 #DonateYourVote project that saw 140+ pairs of incarcerated and free-world participants, Emancipation Initiative is starting our #DonateYourVote 2020 effort earlier to engage even more people. Learn more and sign up to #donateyourvote.

In Massachusetts, our community members who are incarcerated inside of prisons are excluded from participating in elections and all other aspects of the political process. This means that the policies that ultimately determine their quality of life, their release dates, their sentencing, and their rights (and lack thereof) are decided entirely by other people. The #DonateYourVote campaign aims to reverse this injustice by allowing people on the outside to donate their vote to people on the inside. Your donation allows the voices of our community members on the inside to be heard in this election cycle. Please fill out the questions below to be matched to #DonateYourVote!

Participant expectations:

  • After we provide you with the name and address of your incarcerated partner, you should write to them within a month and be comfortable corresponding with a person who is in prison.
  • You will also periodically need to print and mail your partner materials such as a voter guide that we will send to you.
  • This election cycle, we are expanding the project to include outreach to the families’ of incarcerated #DonateYourVote participants and advocating for legislation in the Statehouse to restore the right to vote to people in prison, and we hope that many of you would like to participate in this way, too.

Please note that #DonateYourVote participants on the outside are paired based on where participants on the inside want their vote to count, so your place of residence will determine how quickly you get paired.

Thank you for participating, and please reach out to emancipationinitiative@gmail.com if you have any questions.
